Elforest gratulates Jönköping University Solar Team to an impressive 8:th place in the World Solar Challange 2017!

After many months of hard work designing and building this amazing solar car, now the finish line has finally been crossed. The students from Jönköping University flew down to Australia some weeks ago. There they spent a couple of weeks preparing for the race, adjusting the car, kitting up the escort van and more.

After some exciting days with rain, wind, cloudy skies covering the sun and many teams having to drop out of the race due to the harsh conditions, they finally crossed the finish line as the 8:th team. Over the course of the 3021 km race the car held an impressive averge speed of 59.7 km/h. And this is a car using the sun as its primary source of energy! But not all energy was from the sun, the car was allowed to carry a fully charged lithium ion battery, and this is where Elforest came in to the picture.

Elforest Technologies sponsored the team with a BMS, Battery Management System, for a detailed control and also protection for the battery pack. Special adaptations where made to the system by Elforest's engineers so that the solar panels would not overcharge the battery. After a visit to Jönköping where the BMS and an Elforest Logger was handed over to the students, all support and updates could be handled directly over the Internet by means of the Elforest Logger.

"It has been really great following the students on their journey during this project, even though it was from a distance. There have been many long phone calls with exciting technical discussions during the last months.", says Fredrik Lorenc, technical manager, Elforest. As a token of gratitude, Elforst was honored with a Platinum sponsorship, the highest sponsorship level. See our logo on the car extra lit up on the image above.
